Diode Laser

The laser emits concentrated energy in the form of a light beam. This beam vaporizes matter. The dental laser delivers a narrow pulsed beam and each pulse vaporizes only a specific number of cell layers within the circumference of the beam. This gives Dr. Crawford precise control over the laser.

Gum (Tissue) Contouring

When we think of smiles, we think of teeth. However, gums are just as important when it comes to a healthy, beautiful smile. Some individuals have gum lines that cover a large amount of their tooth surface. That's why Dr. Crawford has invested in soft-tissue laser technology. Using this specialized, ultra-precise tool, Dr. Crawford is able to reshape the gum line or expose more dental enamel on a tooth. With minimal discomfort to patients, Dr. Crawford uses the laser to gently remove some of the gum, a tiny portion at a time, exposing the right amount of tooth structure to enhance your smile. If you have elected to undergo a tooth restoration process, such as veneers, Dr. Crawford may use the laser to expose more of the existing teeth, which provides a better foundation for attaching the veneers to the tooth surface.

Cavity Detection

The good news is that, with increased use of fluoride during the past few decades, the enamel on our teeth is stronger than ever. As a result, we are less likely to develop cavities than our grandparents were. However, some cavities are so small or well-hidden that they remain undetected during a visual examination—and even after X-rays are taken. That's why Dr. Crawford has added the Diagnodent to the state-of-the-art diagnostic tools in his practice. The Diagnodent uses safe, painless laser light technology to expose dental problems that are otherwise concealed below the surface of the tooth. During an examination, Dr. Crawford scans the device over his patients' teeth. If any cavities are present, they will emit a different wavelength of light, alerting Dr. Crawford. Depending on the size of the cavity and other factors, he may recommend cleaning, sealing, filling or simply monitoring the area.
